Features and Benefits of colorFabb Specials Filaments

bronzeFill

This metal 3D printer filament is one of a kind that yields astonishing prints. With a little post-processing bronze polish, you can make your creation shine.

  • Weight is 3-4 times heavier than regular PLA.
  • Matte, almost laser sintered finish.
  • Diameter tolerance: ± 0.05 mm
  • Density: 3.9 g/cm-3
  • Glass Transition Temperature: 55°C
  • Sanding and polishing your parts will make the bronze particles shine. Start sanding with grit 120-180 and make sure all the printed lines vanish. You’ll notice that because bronzeFill is easy to sand down, careful you won’t lose too much detail. Then start working your way up by following with grit 240-320 and finishing off with grit 600 or higher. Finally, use a clean, soft cloth and some copper polish to really get all of the shine out of the bronze particles.

copperFill

This metal 3D printer filament is a stunner that yields astonishing prints. With a little post-processing copper polish, you can make your creation shine.

  • Red-brown clay print becomes a work of art after sanding and polishing
  • Has the added weight of real copper in the filament.
  • Diameter tolerance: ± 0.05 mm
  • Density: 3.9 g/cm-3
  • Glass Transition Temperature: 55°C

glowFill

Even with the lights off, you can’t turn off the appeal of this glow-in-the-dark 3D printer filament, made with a highly concentrated phosphorescent pigment.

  • For a better and longer-lasting glow, time print your models with 100% infill and charge up your models with some high power lights, or just let them enjoy the sunlight for a bit.
  • Diameter tolerance: ± 0.05 mm
  • Density: 1.210-1.430 g/cm-3
  • Glass Transition Temperature: 55°C

steelFill

This metal 3D printing filament has a cool sheen with slight magnetic properties. With a little post-processing polish, your creation can look like it was forged with real steel.

  • High steel content of the steelFill material makes it quite abrasive to brass nozzles. It’s recommended to print with abrasive resistant nozzles, for instance, the E3D hardened steel nozzle, the JET RSS50 and performance 3D Hercules nozzles.
  • Diameter tolerance: ± 0.05 mm
  • Density: 3.13 g/cm3
  • Glass Transition Temperature: 55°C

varioShore TPU

varioShore is TPU made special by using the same foaming technology as LW-PLA. Its distinctive features include variable shore hardness, reduced weight and density, and a soft touch. varioShore is ideally suited for printing insoles and cosplay parts.

  • Developed in cooperation with Lubrizol
  • Vary the density of the material by adjusting temperature and material throughput (speed & layer height).
  • At temperatures between 200 and 250°C the materials will start to expand to roughly 1.4-1.6 times its original volume.
  • The material can be printed at low flow rates (60-70%) to compensate for the active foaming, which in return gives very soft printed parts.
  • Between 190-200°C the material can be printed without foaming, resulting in different haptics and harder prints compared to foamed samples.
  • Diameter tolerance: ± 0.1 mm
  • Density: 1.2-1.3 g/cm3
  • Glass Transition Temperature: 20°C

woodFill

Fill your workspace with a pleasant woodshop smell while printing this easy-to-use special filament, made with recycled wood fibers.

  • This biomaterial is PLA/PHA + fine, recycled pinewood fibers
  • Due to different batches of wood fibers, slight color differences can occur between batches.
  • Diameter tolerance: ± 0.05 mm
  • Glass Transition Temperature: 55°C

bronzeFill

Extruder Temperature

  • 195°C to 220°C

Platform Temperature

  • 50°C to 60°C

Print Speed

  • 40-100 mm/sec
  • Depending on your setup, 3D printer and slice software, you might see that bronzeFill needs a bit more flow compared to your normal PLA settings. Most plastics will show die swell when coming out of the nozzle tip, this is counteracted with specific slicer settings. Since bronzeFill doesn’t show a die swell such as PLA you might need to increase the flow rate a bit, 4-8% was perfect for our UM2. UM original did not need any adjustments.

Cooling Fan

  • Use the least amount of cooling when maximum foaming is required. For better overhang performance use 50-100% cooling.
  • Use standard TPU settings as a base setting for developing your own pre-sets.
  • Make sure the distance between nozzle and platform is not too small, especially if the material is being foamed while printing, the pressure will need to be released from the hot-end to prevent clogging and feeder issues.

  • For stronger prints and better reliability, you can increase the flow rate by about 0-10%. This will cause the filament to keep going through the hot zone at a steady pace.
