These 3D Printed Shin Guards Can Take a Hit!
Are you tired of 3D printing filaments that break under pressure? Do you need a material that can take a serious beating? Then read on because we have just the answer for you.
But first, let’s define an important metric called impact strength. This is the amount of energy a material can take from a sudden load. There are many applications and products that require materials that are rated for high impact strength, such as power tools that get dropped on a job site, or even phone cases that need to protect your phone upon a heart-stopping fall from your pocket!
That’s why these lightweight, breathable shin guards were printed with Cheetah, a filament produced by Ninjatek. Cheetah is one of the toughest filaments on the market, with 84% greater impact strength than ABS, enabling it to survive even the roughest treatment. But don’t just take our word for it – these shin guards were put through the wringer , and they came out looking as good as new!
Because these shin guards were printed with Cheetah, a 95A TPU, they provide the perfect balance of strength to take and dissipate an impact, and also flexibility which enables them to conform to a player’s shin. And, because they are 3D printed, they’re primarily constructed of a lightweight and breathable lattice pattern which can also be endlessly customized without needing to re-tool.
So how were these actually made? First, the base geometry was modeled in Fusion 360, where the overall shape and strap loops were created. Next, it was optimized for 3D printing in nTopology, a software that enables the creation of incredibly complex designs. It was used to generate numerous different designs, all with their own aesthetic characteristics and mechanical advantages. And, because they were printed with a 1.4mm nozzle, one pair could be printed every hour!
So why settle for weak and flimsy filaments when you can print with the toughest of the tough? Give Cheetah by Ninjatek a try today and see the difference for yourself. Your 3D printed parts will thank you!
